Happy New Year! I hope you are all kickstarting a great new year no matter where you are in the world. Here are a couple of new updates:
1. Lang and I went to the biggest electronics trade show in Las Vegas called CES last week. We had many visitors at the booth interested in Just Simple. To our surprise, we met many of you! Thank you for stopping by the booth and it's so great to meet you in person!
Our booth is small but to the point :) Our Just Simple Power Banks are at the center of the table. One product you see on the left is from Lang's previous campaign that is shipping NOW. You will be able to take a look them at the add-on store.
2. You aren't forgotten! The Backerkit survey is going to be sent out within the next 24 hours. For those of you who are new to Kickstarter, it's a survey to collect your shipping address, product preference and so forth so we can deliver our product to you when it's ready.
One big news is, to thank all of you who believed in us during the Kickstarter campaign, we decided to give every one of the initial Kickstarter backers (exclusive to Kickstarter) a $5 credit at the add-on store (which you will see when you fill out the survey). Happy holiday season! No matter where you are in the world, hope you get to enjoy your time with your loved ones.
It's been a few weeks since our last update. We were waiting for the fund and the finalized backer list from Kickstarter. Now we have finally received them, we are creating the survey to collect your information. It will be sent out on Jan 6th, first Monday after the new year, so you don't miss it due to your vacation plans.
On a different note. I just made a trip to Shenzhen, China to visit our factory. Lang and I have been working together but remotely for the past 6 months - he's been staying close to the manufacturing company in Shenzhen while I was launching the campaign in New York City. It’s great to finally meet up. In the past few weeks, we've been carefully considering and vetting the feedback and ideas backers have been giving us throughout the campaign. We are not going to change our fundamental design, but we agreed that there are a few things we could do better to improve the product. In our trip to the manufacturing company, we discussed the following matters with the factory experts:
1. Length and durability of the built-in cables - some of you want the cable to be longer, others want to make sure that the cables are strong enough. We listen to your requests and comments on our Kickstarter page. We will make the built-in cable with flat design and durable materials and longer wires.
2. Pass-through charging efficiency. We changed the PCB design and utilize a new IC to increase the total pass-through charging output to 30W. It will ensure that you can use our power bank as a true fast charging deck.
3. Improving the aesthetic of the suction cups. The suction cups provide great utility. We found out a way to improve the aesthetic slightly by hiding the base part of suction cups inside of the plastic case.
In the next update, I will share more details on our improved design.

Moreover, we've been receiving more questions about the power bank lately and below are some frequently asked questions
1. Does wireless charging support Non-Apple smartwatches?
Our current design only supports Apple Watch wireless charging at the moment.
2. Should I be expecting delays as many of these crowd-funded projects seem to be delayed on average?
We are well aware of the delays in hardware products, which is why we built in a two-month buffer time to the final delivery date. If everything goes smoothly, there's a possibility we could deliver 2 months before our official delivery date. We don't want to over-promise but we will do our best!
3. Is the built-in cables strong enough?
In our second iteration of the power bank, we decided to use a more flexible/bendable material so the cable is less likely to get torn. We haven't seen any issues in our testings so far. We will continue to test and improve for the next three months.
4. How do you charge the power bank?
You could use either a Micro-USB or a USB-C chord to charge the power bank. We will provide a free small and portable Mico-USB cable in the package.
5. Would the power bank have an overheating issue?
We have put many thoughts into preventing this from happening. 1. Our design keeps the top 3 ports on one PCB, the 2 wireless charging ports and built-in cable on a separate PCB. This reduces heat inside of the PCBs. 2. Just in the extreme case of overheat, the power bank itself has a temperature sensor in which will turn off the entire power bank. 3. From our testings so far, we have not seen any overheating issue yet.

Lastly, when we first decided to go forward with the Just Simple Power Bank idea, I interviewed dozens of power bank users. I noticed that power bank users tend to be more organized and like to plan ahead. They don't mind taking an extra device with them for the peace of mind. Do you agree with the statements?
